Cheap Intermatic Malibu

Do not purchase this item unless you are willing to replace it every 5 years. I had purchased this from Lowe's about 5 years ago. Back then the warranty was 5 years. Of course the 12vdc output crapped out after 5.5 years. I just got off the phone with Intermatic customer service (manufactures them for Malibu) and they will not provide a replacement as it is past the 5year date. They followed up with "be happy your warranty was 5 years as now the warranty is only 3 years." Buyers you have been warned.To Malibu / Intermatic, I would be happy to take down this poor review on your crappy product if you would stand behind your product and replace my failed unit. You know how to contact me as my warranty claim # was 153827.

Fortunately for me this was a gift...as it does nothing to get rid of mosquitos, especially not an 80% reduction as claimed. Makes a great moth catcher however.

This transformer was an identical replacement for one that the timer went out on. Intermatic wouldn't sell just the timer. (a simple fix) So I was forced to spend $60 instead of $3 or $4. What a waste. There must have been 2 or 3 pounds of copper that just went out in the trash. I should have bought a different brand out of spite, but this was the best deal. Glad I found it on Amazon. Much cheaper than retail from the big box stores.

If you are, this will do it. I've had one of these units running for almost nine years. The clock timer broke fairly soon after purchase, which has been mentioned in a number of other reviews. Timer reliability seems to be a global issue with Malibu Power Packs. I just left the Power Pack on and put a light-sensitive timer between the wall outlet and the transformer...the lights now turn on for four hours at dusk.One note about planning your light wiring. This power pack has two 300 watt outputs, not one 600 watt output. (The 900 watt power pack has three 300 watt outputs) To load the sections of the transformer equally, you should split your yard wiring into two roughly equal wattage strings of lights. 300 watts at 12 volts is 25 amps. That's a lot of current to push down even 12 gauge wire. If you're planning on loading it that heavily, either use 10 gauge wire or split the lights into four equal wattage strings, with two connected to each output.Here's something to consider - Rather than being single-handily responsible for global warming, you can purchase LED lights that fit into the Malibu fixtures. They burn a lot less energy. (Pair LED bulbs Landscape fixtures Malibu, 9LED Wedge type, T15/T4 12V, White is one example, but there are much brighter ones available) The Warm White LEDs (3000-3500K) have roughly the same color of light as the regular Malibu lights. The ones that I bought for $5 each are not quite as bright as the incandescent lights, but swapping those out dropped…

This was my second of these transformers. They are very reliable. They have great features - I use the dimmable lights at 1am, and the motion detector to brighten the lights if someone or somethings walks close by.The only supply 12v, but this has not been an issue for me.This came with a broken bar. The bar stops the cover from being raised too high when you want to adjust the timing, and is really non-functional, so I didn't worry about it. Still I'm a happy customer.I have one at the from of the house, and one at the back. Very easy to use and set up.

I've owned these lights for the last year and they are reliable but if you point them up, water accumulates on the lense and the glass becomes clouded over. I've tried to clean them but the mineral deposits become too thick after a period of time. They should make them with drainage holes in the outside cover.

I have had the Malibu landscape ligting system for over 5 years and have had no trouble with it. It gets rained on, snowed on, tree/ground debris dumped on and keeps on working. I have a 600 watt timer transformer operating a front yard zone and back yard zone of lights. Most fixtures are the three tier, 7 watt type with a few 50 watt, flood light types aimed at trees. They go on and off each night reliably. I have added and removed and relocated fixtures with no trouble. They are mostly plastic but have held up remarkably well. They shine light better than the solar lights althought they do require wire and electric.

I had an X-10 automation system put in my kitchen remodeling project and it died about three years later. X-10 is subject to a great deal of interference and is a technology no longer worth investing in since there's Z-Wave. My Z-Wave system has worked flawlessly. I haven't taken advantage all of this control unit's capabilities yet (it has a built in clock and calendar to turn lights on and off when you're away) but I expect it to work as advertised as well.

Just as advertised. Installed for 1 week, installed two packs of four or eight lights.Light well and should be less prone to attack by my dogs. So far would recommend to others.

Needed a three circuit low voltage transformer and found this one on sale here for $112.96 with free shipping. The same item in the home improvement stores was twice the cost. Basic mechanical timer and works great lighting up the whole yard.

Purchased & came in timely manner. Had read all reviews and thought to be good for flag illumination. Received and setup and worked for a few days then quit. Tapped on solar panel and light would go off and on. Contacted support which was fast and fair and sent out new solar panel however received differnt model solar panel with 800Mah batteries and original was 1200Mah. Called concerned about brightness as solar panel was smaller and asked why sent wrong model. They said model should work and needed the 1200Mah and would send me some. Received 900mAh batteries. Go figure. Light working but as I said disappointed. Not sure if I were to get the right model whether it would work or be brighter. Answering Service good but questionable knowledge of product, product lousy.

This transformer works as avertised, it is a great price performer. It was very easy to install. The timer is quiet and easy to use.

Paid about $45 shipped and got it installed in no time. Pretty simple installation. Would have loved a photo timer instead of the one that this unit comes with. So far it has been working without any problems. Could not find anything similar at lowes or home depot. When you look at the quality of workmanship etc.. it surely is worth what you pay.
