I selected this meter based on the variety of measurements (including the IR thermometer, which I had used before in a lab) and the price. I find it is a very capable meter. I like the builtin stand, the backlight, the sharp probes and the large display. The one area where it really falls short (and even led me to believe it was broken the first time I encountered a 470 in a lab) is the auto ranging. It is much, MUCH slower than a Fluke, and while it is auto ranging it displays the random outputs at the wrong ranges. That's the main thing that keeps me from giving it 5 stars. One other slight weakness is the audible continuity tester. My Fluke 10 has some minimum beep time which you can hear even if you barely brush something. The Extech's beep is on for exactly as long as the probes are connected. If you brush against something you might only hear a strangled click or screech.

Negatives:Sometimes it does get off whack from sudden temperatures and you have to take a couple minutes to let it reset and get the right distance from things. Sometimes it isn't the quickest temp register.Positives:The price. This cost less than a bunch of others I saw. Overall it is accurate more than it is not. It isn't complicated to use, anyone could use one of these.

This instrument measures Air Velocity, Air Flow (volume), Air Temperature (with probe) and Surface Temperature (with the InfraRed function). The large, easy-to-read backlit LCD includes primary and secondary displays plus numerous status indicators. The I
I bought this to balance the A/C ducts in my home. I was quite surprised at how bad the system was designed with small rooms receiving high CFM's and large rooms with very little. This tool does a nice job in calculating the CFM based on the measured duct opening. It reads the airspeed then uses the duct dimensions to display CFM. As a bonus the thing does IR temperature readings as well but my primary application was CFM measurement and this it does well. Easy to use with big bright display that is backlighted at the touch of a button. Great tool at a decent price compared to others on the market. It came with a very nice case that also holds the instruction book.

When I am having a lot of people over, we tend to do a lot of cooking in the kitchen. Sometimes it can be a little tricky to keep track of the temperatures everyone needs but this thermometer gun is a cool accessory to have on hand. I must admit that I actually own it for doing electrical work, but it is still pretty cool to whip out in the kitchen when someone is wondering what degree the oven is at!

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)As is typical, Dewalt housed this camera in a custom case with carrying handle. The unit can be stored in the case fully assembled, or in varying stages of assembly. There is a small compartment with a door for the hook and magnet attachments. The charger is stored on its side in the case. It would be nice if it stored flat in the case so you wouldn't have to remove it for charging. Some of the Rigid Tool cases are set up this way and I find it to be efficient. The initial setup was fairly basic with easy to follow instructions. There are settings for date & time and display formats for each. Charging the battery took 30 minutes. This particular unit needs the grey stripe on the camera end to be on top, relative to the handle. While the image is still not square on the screen, it is better than the inverted image I got the first time I assembled it. There is a key shaped like a hexagon that prevents the cable from spinning on the mount. This key is not aligned accurately for the image to be completely square on the screen. The screen is a nice size for viewing. The resolution is high enough for the unit's intended use. I wouldn't try to watch a movie on it, although you could (without sound) from the micro SD card that is sold separately. It has 3 zoom levels: 1.5X, 2X, and 3X. The zoom is purely digital and creates the expected artifacts as the zoom is increased. This camera is not intended as a super high-end imaging…

I have enjoyed playing with this quite a bit. It is handy for cooking, for checking temperatures of things I don't want to touch (a wood stove, a bath of caustic chemicals for printed circuit board manufacture, etc.)However, I have found that it is fairly inaccurate at the low end of the scale. For instance, on a recent snowy day for which the weather report read a consistent 20 degrees Fahrenheit (which was consistent with a non-IR digital thermometer I had when I left it in the snow for a while), the Fluke IR thermometer was sometimes reading at times between eight and zero degrees Fahrenheit.I eventually figured out that the longer I had the thermometer outside, the lower its readings got -- if I took it out from a warm room outside and immediately took a temperature reading, it read approximately what I expected (20 degrees), but after about twenty seconds outside, it was reading 14 degrees, and the reported temperature kept dropping thereafter. (Note that I was using it to measure the temperature of the outside snow about 15 inches away from the thermometer.) This made it virtually useless for what I was trying to do (measure the temperature of a water faucet to determine if it was in danger of freezing).

Auto power off. Wide temperature range from -58 to 1832F (-50 to 1000C). High 50 to 1 distance to target ratio measures smaller surface areas at greater distances. Weight: 10.2 oz (290g). Dimensions: 3.9x2.2x9" (100x56x230 mm).
Yes. While the emissivity setting can affect the displayed temperature, the unit is fairly accurate. However, the unit appears to have a built in temperature compensation unit. I used the unit outside in 95-degree weather and when I took it inside to measure the air conditioning register discharge temperature, it was way off. After about fifteen minutes, it was accurate again.

DEWALT's new 12 Volt MAX infrared thermometer is ideal for electricians, plumbers, remodelers and HVAC contractors tasked with scanning for temperature changes and locating potential trouble spots on the jobsite. With the ability to measure temperatures from negative 20 degrees Fahrenheit to 932 degrees Fahrenheit and a patent-pending LED hot and cold spot indicator, the IR thermometer provides visual and audio alarms to alert contractors in noisy work conditions. Maximum initial battery pack voltage (measured without a workload) is 12 volts. Measured under a workload, nominal voltage is 10.8. Includes a 12V Max Li-Ion Battery (DCB120F). note on battery technology: When batteries are being charged and discharged a chemical reaction is taking place, and if it is too hot or cold the chemical reaction is disturbed causing a loss of runtime. when using the battery in cold climates to put the battery on charge first or do a couple quick applications to get it warmed up. For optimum performance,…
This Dewalt Thermometer is so easy to use. It was recommended to me by a local hardware store, and when I checked Amazon, I found it was $50 cheaper than the store. I'm a caretaker at a church-sponsored retreat and I've used this thermometer to check temperatures of freezers, refrigerators, air conditioner outputs, and ovens. Its ease of use is what attracted me, and it seems very accurate and results are repeatable. Instructions are well written and easy to follow.

I spent a lot of time shopping for this item. Most comparable units cost significantly more and hardly perform better. The first good feature is that this unit is light weight and uses 2 commonly available AAA batteries. Some of the comparable units use expensive, heavier, rechargeable batteries. If you don't use the backlight and laser, the batteries will last a long time (rated 14 hours of continuous use). The display is easily visible in most normal lighting conditions, I have yet to require the backlight for any extended period. The laser is a nice touch when you're measuring electronic components on a circuit board; but, really isn't necessary for most HVAC or cooking applications. So, in my case the battery life is quite satisfactory. The second good feature is the automatic High, Low, Difference and Average calculation built into the tool. A small spot size is great for differentiating which componenent on a circuit board is hot; but, leaves a bit to be desired when trying to find the thermal leak around your doors or windows. But, with this tool you simply hold down the trigger while you linearly sweep the area then release the trigger. The maximum temperature reading while you had the trigger down can then be displayed as well as the minimum temperature reading, the difference and the average. This can help tremendously in interpreting the individual fluctuations during your sweep.A third good feature is the "hold" vs. "lock" mode controlled by the…
